Description Different control strategies that have been developed for the M3-Rowing Simulator are presented for 3D sweep rowing. The first scene "Sweep Rowing 3D" shows the simulation of realistic "on water" rowing: when the oar is in water, the water forces interacting with the oar can be felt, the oar floats when it is released, and the water surface can be clearly experienced when the oar blade is horizontally immersed. The second scene "Position Control" exemplifies the possibilities of the M3-Rowing simulator: The haptic display, also called r3-system, can display prerecorded or artificially generated rowing trajectories to the human rower, which is not possible for rowing trainers on water. In the third scene, a newly developed control strategy called "Generalized Elastic Path Control" (GEPC) is shown: The rower can move freely on a predefined path, or tunnel. The closer the rower gets to the walls of the path, the higher the force becomes that pushes the rower back onto the predefined rowing path.
